Friday Five

1. Happy belated St. Patrick's Day! I did not wear green. I forgot, then remembered, then asked someone if they were wearing green in honor of "St. Mike's Day." So.

2.  Jennifer Lawrence is Katniss Everdeen!

Hunger Games fans, how do we feel about this? (Comfort Twizzlers located below your seat, in case you need them!)

I think I'm on board with this. If you've seen Winter's Bone, you know a) Jennifer can act, b) she can kick butt, c) she can skin small animals (this is totally relevant). Her Winter's Bone character was pretty similar to Katniss, actually: teenager forced to grow up too soon, fiercely loyal, protective big sister, and animal skinner.

3. Now that Katniss is sorted out, I intend to spend the rest of my time fretting over who's going to play Peeta. I saw Beastly recently and, all abs being equal, I just don't think Alex Pettyfer is our guy. Don't get me wrong, he's blonde, cute, and an absolutely fine actor, but.... I'm not sold.

4. What a week. Seeing footage of the devastation in Japan has been heartbreaking, eye-opening, a reminder of just how fragile and impermanent everything is. A lot of people have commented on how weird it feels to go about our lives as normal, while elsewhere in the world, so much is lost. I agree. Superstar Author and Person, John Green, said something typically profound recently: "All human life is lived in close proximity to tragedy." Isn't that the truth?

5. Lastly, if you're feeling down, or if the proffered comfort Twizzlers simply aren't cutting it for you, you should watch this. I'm usually immune to those Baby And Dog Hold Hands! Baby Blinks! videos that circulate the Interwebs, but this one broke me. I laughed. And then rewatched. And laughed again.

Happy Friday! :)

I heard about Jennifer playing the part. I guess we'll have to see...

Thanks for the video. I remember when my little ones used to do that. *sighs* Miss that...

    Enjoy your weekend.

Jennifer: I'm thinking I judged too quickly. We will see.

Peeta: I'm going to have to throw a fit if they choose Alex. He's just...not right. It would be weird.

Just for the record, I didn't wear green either.

I'm totally okay with Jennifer. I had imagined Katniss to look different, but I guess we'll see once she's Katnissified. As for Peeta... I'm kind of 'eh' about Alex Pettyfer as well. Hunter Parrish is also a front runner for Peeta, and he's okay too. Very pretty lol.

    Heyyyy Sarah :)

I'm totes good with Jennifer Lawrence! I've heard SOOOOO many complaints about her hair color, which confuses me--because, um, hair dye anyone?

    Happy St. Mike's Day!

I'm down with anyone playing the parts in any given movie. I try to enjoy it for a film and not a book, and that really helps me. Otherwise, I'm just MAD MAD MAD the whole time.

Gah--your Friday five totally puts mine to shame. Also, how did I not know they'd cast Katniss?

I made Mr. J watch the baby video last night. So stinking cute!

Not sure how I feel about casting of Hunger Games. I'm feeling very raw and vulnerable about them possibly ruining my books.

Regarding Japan, it makes me sick. I have clients coming in to talk about their money and what the events in Japan will do to their outlook. I hate that families over there are suffering while I'm explaining that the world will not fall apart because of this and Taiwan and China will thrive as they take on Japan's IT and blah blah blah. I feel dirty.
