Friday Five: Royal Hangover Edition

Posted on | Friday, April 29, 2011 | 9 Comments

Guys! I stayed up all night, freaking out that I'd miss something good. I'm jetlagged from my long flight to London. But I had to blog some thoughts on the Royal Wedding.

1. Random things overheard lip-read during the ceremony and procession, in no particular order.

William: (at the altar) You look beautiful. (You better believe I swooned, whooped, and giggled. So sweet.)

Kate: (when Wills held her bouquet while she stepped into the carriage) Thank you.

William: Are you okay?

Kate: I'm so happy.

Harry (to William): I'm so glad Sarah was able to make it. If I can get rid of those pesky movie stars that won't leave her side, this might be us in a few years. Wait...is that creepy?

2. The Queen doesn't sing "God Save The Queen"! When you think about it, this absolutely makes sense, but I can't say I've ever really thought about it. Everyone was singing and I was all, "Whaa--does the Queen have tonsilitis?" And a member of my viewing party the duchess I was sitting beside was all, "She can't sing about herself!" Oh. #lackofsleepfail

3. Kate was exquisite.

Taken from here.
She looked gorgeous, her dress was fabulous and worth all the hype, in my opinion. I loved that it was simple and elegant, but had her taste written all over it. And she apparently did her own make-up! I love how self-possessed and confident (yet relatable) she seems. I would have been so, so nervous.

4. Okay, so I may have dozed off during Archbishops' 4-6 speeches, but 1 through 3 were, um, very good. Very archbishop-y. Seriously, though -- call it over-the-top, self-important, even *gasp* boring, but I love the adherence to tradition. I love the things that stay the same throughout generations, the fact that those Brits are not afraid to have a good celebration or, you know, wear a ridiculous hat. Victoria Beckham's was especially fantastic.

I heard this was one of the Queen's rejects. I have no idea why.

5. In one of my Top Two-ish moments (the other might be Kiss #2), I loveloveloved when Kate Catherine walked into the chapel and William (by tradition, I'm assuming?) wasn't allowed to turn around and look at her. Harry did, though - after which he turned back to William, chuckled, and relayed a message of some sort. In my mind, he told William that he'd found a keeper. Or that I was three rows away. It could've been one or the other, really. Either way, I'm convinced it was a total brother moment, and I adored it.

To summ, I hope William and Catherine are very happy!

So, obviously, I had fun. Did you watch? If so, what did you think?

Ive been up all morning! LOVE LOVE LOVE Kate's dress and the looks between her and Will and Harry's smiles and the carriage ride and Eugenie and Beatrice's HATS and Posh and BECKHAM!!!!! Only complaint was those kisses were LAME, but they were smiling so much through him, I'm happy.

I only got to see the balcony/kiss. I loved the planes flying over. So cool

through THEM< they smiled through the kisses, not Him.... I have NO idea what that means. Also...no sleep last night!

I knew I came to the right place for a recap! I admit that I was sleeping this morning. Also that I don't have a television *gasp*

But don't worry, I'll be sure to watch when you and Harry get married :)

I tuned in around the time they started saying their vows (though, of course they showed clips of the beginning of the wedding again, so I got to see that, too). I thought it was all very elegant and beautiful.

I too wondered why the Queen wasn't singing, and then duh...it hit me what song they were singing. :) And I loved that she was wearing yellow- it's my favorite color.

I loved that the couple decided to have those trees bought into Westminster Abbey. It made everything look smaller and more intimate, and sort of like an outdoor wedding.

I also loved how enthusiastic and celebratory the British people were. :)

I seriously need to go back to school and take a course on lip-reading. Apparently, I'm one of the only people on the planet who isn't privy to any private conversations William had today. Jeannie fail....

I heard that Harry said to William (upon seeing Kate walk down the aisle): "Wait until you see her." But really, with the accent and all screwing up the lip-reading, can we be sure he didn't ask "how'd the tress get in here?" I remain unconvinced.

Glad you enjoyed the little wedding-thing here in the UK. I was all washed out this morning from staying up for the NFL draft for exactly the same reasons!

I didn't want to miss anything, either - although there were far fewer hats on display in Radio City Music Hall(starter caps excluded).

Must admit I did watch the wedding and thought the bomber passing by was a nice touch (insert Fergie joke here if you like).

I took your advice and did my best to recap my thoughts as well. They were of course very similar to yours. Do you and I need to meet in person before I'm guaranteed an invite to yours and Harry's? Because if so, let's speed that plan UP. And now I want to watch again. I WILL be buying a commemorative book and/or the DVD if it comes available. :) (Oh! And I forgot to mention on my blog but after getting shushed by Michael bc he'd heard enough about EVERY LITTLE DETAIL, I was watching the replay once when my 11-year-old son said, "This looks like a movie." And I was vindicated. THANK you, I said. In very much the tone of I-told-you-so.
