Birthday post

Posted on | Friday, May 6, 2011 | 12 Comments

It's both a Friday AND my birthday!

You know what this means, right?

There are a few more candles on my cake.

The obligatory Johnny Special Occasions serenade:

And:

They tried to make a duet work, bless their hearts, but um. No. OrRyanGosling has also asked who you guys think is rocking the singlet look harder. OrRyanGosling here: Don't feel pressure to say ME. Seriously. I mean it.

Around these parts, we've been - and are being - reminded of how fragile this life thing is. You can't hold it in your hands; you can't cut ahead in line or demand special treatment, regardless of who you are.

There is much I don't understand, and I keep thinking of this verse:

"Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely..." ~ 1 Corinthians 13:12

This, too.

I hope you'll forgive me for being so somber in a post that starts with cupcakes and musically-inclined movie stars.

The truth is that part of my heart is heavy today, but mostly I am grateful. This poem says it all:

Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, - a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.

~George Herbert
I'll never know why, but I am incredibly blessed. Birthday/Friday or not, I'm going to eat Twizzlers today. And cake. Join me?

Taken from here.

Let me just grab you a fork.

Happy Friday, friends! :)

Happy, happy birthday, Sarah! Reading your blog has been one of the few things that make me crack up out of nowhere. I hope your day is full of Johnny, Twizzlers, and cake. :)

When I saw the title, I thought this post would be about George Clooney. Oh, and YOU SHARE A BIRTHDAY WITH GEORGE CLOONEY.

Happy Birthday to one of the world's very brightest lights. You put so much good out there. And this post is lovely proof of it!

Happy Birthday - you also share a birthday with Orson Welles (how awesome is that?!).

Have a great day - and enjoy that cake.

I'm going to have to vote for Johnny... I've always been a piano girl (and McHotVoice won't let me vote for OrRyanGosling).

Thanks for reminding me how great life is :)
